For as long as I can remember, I have always loved music. Not only the sound but the way it makes me feel. Whether I’m having the worst day of my life or simply relaxing at home, music is always my go-to. As I got older, I wanted to learn more about the healing properties of music and why I feel connected to certain artists, albums, or songs. Turns out there are a wide variety of ways music can heal the mind, body, and soul which I will be discussing.
The Science Behind Frequencies
There are two important things to note with the frequency of sound: German physicist Winfried Otto Schuman and Ancient cultures. German physicist Winfried Otto Schumann was able to document electromagnetic connections between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere—the part of Earth’s atmosphere that is electrically charged. He discovered that these waves originated from lightning charges, resonating at a low frequency ranging (7.86 Hz to 8 Hz.) He determined that this frequency “Earth’s heartbeat.” Now, what do ancient cultures have to do with the science behind sound? The study of sound goes back thousands of years to ancient cultures such as Chinese, Japanese, and Egyptian times. During these times, soundboards were utilized to create music.
What are the different Solfeggio Frequencies?
According to the Nature Healing Society, the different Solfeggio frequencies in numerical order are as followed:
- The 396 Hz for liberating one from fear and guilt
- The 417 Hz frequencies for facilitating change and undoing situations
- The 528 Hz for miracles and transformations like DNA repair
- The 639 Hz frequencies for relationships and reconnecting
- The 741 Hz solfeggio frequencies for getting solutions and expressing themselves
- The 852 Hz frequencies for returning one to a spiritual order
How do I know what frequency to listen to?
Fantastic question. I had the same issue, but I figured it out by assessing my current situation and asking myself questions to better gauge what I was looking for. For example, going through a heartbreak, one might ask themselves if they ever truly liked that person. You might be drawn to 639 Hz. Another example is finding clarity within a situation. You might want to listen to 741 Hz but then again, listen to what you feel drawn to.
What can music be used to heal?
Some people tend not to believe in music’s power, but countless studies have proven music helps reduce anxiety, depression, and even memory loss. Therapy such as sound and music uses sound baths created by Tibetan bowls to help your cells to move more. More information about sound therapy can be found here.
What artists make music at specific frequencies?
Several artists are ranging from Bob Marley to Jimi Hendrix, who uses their sound for healing purposes but here are some more familiar artists that are known for their specific sound:
Jhene Aiko
She is a fan favorite (myself included) for her use of crystal alchemy bowls within her music. It’s no secret that since her brother’s death back in 2014, she uses that experience to enlighten herself and the person listening to the music. She focuses on specific sounds relating to each chakra. For a more in-depth look at her sound therapy journey, visit Vice.com.
SZA
Sza also utilizes Tibetan bowls, especially in live shows. Her album CTRL released in 2017, has a lingering effect on the listener. Most people who listen to the album express how the album liberated them to heal from damaging or toxic relationships and aiding in balancing the heart chakra.
Concluding thoughts
Adjusting your body to Solfeggios frequencies can allow for your vibration to not only elevate but allow for deep healing to occur. As you listen to your chosen frequency, note how it makes you feel physically and mentally. If you just so happen to be in the mood, here is a playlist of High Vibrational Music created by Spotify.
